Adding fumed silica increases the viscosity and consistency of the battery gel/electrolyte, forming a structured network with thixotropic behavior. It thickens upon charging and thins during discharge. This thickening and thixotropic behavior greatly enhances the performance of the colloidal system, effectively improving the battery’s performance and significantly extending its lifespan.
Stability
