This standard is set by Guangzhou Huifu Reaserch Institute Co., Ltd., which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of HUBEI HUIFU NANOMATERIAL CO.,LTD. former company name : Yichang Huifu Silicon Material Co., Ltd.

 

                                                                               

 

The group standard, Determination of Silanol Content on the Surface of Fumed Silica (T/FSI 490-2020)

 

Fumed silica is produced by flame pyrolysis technique, it’s nano amorphous white powder with small particle size, large specific surface area and high surface activity. Fumed silica is used in many industries due to its versatile nature, like silicone elastomer, adhesive and sealants, paint and coatings, electronics, food powder and pharmaceutical industry in drug manufacturing processes, mainly for functions of mechanical reinforcement, viscosity adjustment, rhelogical control, anti-settling, anti-sagging and anti-caking properties. The surface of fumed silica contains a large amount of silanol groups ( Si-OH), which makes it easy to absorb moisture and affect the dispersion. Besides, the abnormal Si-OH content will also affect its performance. Therefore, the Si-OH content on the surface of fumed silica is one of the important technical indicators of fumed silica products. For a long time, there has not been a standard test method for Si-OH content on the surface of fumed silica, this index is not listed into the fumed silica product standard.

 

To change above situation, Guangzhou Huifu Research Institute Co., Ltd. Submitted the project, group standard -- Determination of Silanol Content on the Surface of Fumed Silica, to China Association of Fluorine and Silicon Industry ( CAFSI ), and it’s approved. (Approval No.: CAFSI [2018] No. 09, Project No.: FGJ2018013). CAFSI established the Working Group for Silica Surface Silanol Content Test , and Guangzhou Huifu Research Institute Co., Ltd. serves as the secretary unit of the working group. Starting from the practicality and reliability of the standard, the project selected the "acid-base titration method" and "reaction gas chromatography" as standard methods. The implementation of this standard provides a standard basis for the determination of the silanol content on the surface of fumed silica, and is of great significance for the quality control and performance evaluation of fumed silica products. This is another achievement that HUIFU has made in standardization after the international standard Fume Silica for Silicone Rubber(ISO18473-3) and the national standard Nano Alumina (GB / T 26824).
